Is my Social Security retirement or disability benefit reduced if my spouse receives a pension based on work not covered under Social Security?
The Social Security retirement or disability benefit you receive based on your own earnings under Social Security is not reduced if your spouse receives a pension based on his or her noncovered work. However, if your spouse receives a pension based on noncovered work and your Social Security benefit is based on your spouse's account, your benefit as well as your spouse's may be reduced as a result of the Windfall Elimination Provision. For more details, see Windfall Elimination Provision (Publication No. 05-10045).
