Some employees of federal, State and local government agencies and nonprofit organizations and some individuals who have worked in other countries may be eligible for pensions that are based on earnings not covered by Social Security.

Because of a law known as the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP), this can affect the amount of your Social Security monthly benefits. Social Security does not know whether you are eligible for such a pension, so Social Security cannot automatically adjust the estimates on your Statement.
