A "margin call" is the demand by a securities brokerage firm to a customer for additional funds or securities, to be deposited into the customer's margin account. The margin call typically arises because of an adverse price movement in one or more of the securities held in the margin account. The margin call requires the account owner to bring the account value up to a minimum acceptable amount established by the brokerage firm.
