"FNMA" or "Fannie Mae" is a government sponsored entity that buys mortgages from lenders, bundles them into securities and sells them to the secondary mortgage market. Fannie Mae is the larges mortgage investor in the U.S. and is formally known as the Federal National Mortgage Association.
