"Forbearance" is a postponement of monthly payments for a limited amount of time in which a borrower is unable to make payments on a loan. This can also be an extension on the length of repayment of the loan. Usually, there is still a charge of interest during the time of forbearance. A forbearance is only granted with the approval of the lender.
