The "family maximum" amount applies only when benefits are being paid to several people on one record. For example, if your wife and perhaps one or two minor children were getting benefits on your record, there would be a limit on how much Social Security could pay all of you together on that record. Because you and your wife are each eligible on your own records, the maximum limit does not apply to you. You will each receive your own benefits.
