The "greater fool theory" holds that a person can buy any investment, whether overpriced or not, and still resell the investment at a profit to someone who is an even bigger fool than the initial investor. The greater fool theory is used to describe speculative bubbles, where investors quickly buy and sell sometimes questionable investments. Subsequent investors do the same thing so that everyone makes a profit until the bubble bursts.
