"At Will Employment" is an employment relationship where either the employer or the employee can terminate the relationship at any time without liability. Companies often sign "at-will" employment letters to document the nature of the relationship. There are, however, a number of exceptions to the at-will doctrine, where the employee may not be terminated if:
The termination is a violation of a public policy principle
The termination is improperly based on age, race or sex
The termination is retaliatory for lawful conduct
The termination is in violation of an employment contract
