In 2001, the Appeals Council instituted several innovative approaches to case processing in order to provide better service to the public. One of these innovations is called "Differential Case Management." In this process, the Appeals Council initially examines all requests for review shortly after receipt to identify the appropriate case-processing track and to process to completion cases identified for expedited action. The goal is to provide speedier service for different types of claims.
