Why does Social Security provide written and Internet content in Spanish?
Because of the Social Security Administration’s desire to improve their service to the public, including their non-English speaking population, Social Security provides many publications and notices in Spanish in addition to English. Spanish is the second most widely spoken language in the United States. In addition, it is the primary language used in Puerto Rico--a self-governing commonwealth of the United States. Further, several States border Mexico, also a Spanish-speaking country. Social Security offers this service as a courtesy to their customers who pay into Social Security and do not speak the English language.
