How do I request proof of my Social Security benefit amount?
Every year Social Security sends all beneficiaries an SSA-1099 form showing how much they received in the past year. You can use this as proof of your benefit amount. People who have direct deposit also receive a notice when their benefit increases because of an annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). The COLA notice can also serve as proof of your benefit amount. If you need verification of your current benefits, Social Security can send you a statement you can show as proof of your Social Security benefit amount. You can make an online request for a Proof of Income Letter at: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/beve/
You may also call Social Security's toll-free number, 1-800-772-1213, for proof of your benefit amount. People who are deaf or hard of hearing may call the Social Security Administration’s toll-free TTY number, 1-800-325-0778, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Monday through Friday.
